The Brussels-based architecture firm OFFICE kgdvs is one of the rare examples that show an intriguing balance of practical, cultural, and theoretical ambitions. They do not shy away of taking bold positions. According to Kersten Geers and David Van Severen, architecture’s value has been degraded to a marketable design object. Paradoxically, the market dictates differentiations that end up forming an increasingly uniform style. Hierarchies, anchors and common values are needed, now more than ever, to ensure that architecture holds its claim to cultural content within this market-minded field. OFFICE kgdvs rises to this challenge with the clarity of their architectural elements on the one hand, and ambiguity of their intentions on the other. Consequently, architecture, as a cultural product, is all about intentions.
