Das Institut für Kunst und Architektur (IKA) begreift Architektur als ein intellektuelles und ideelles Konstrukt, gekoppelt an wirtschaftliche, politische und soziale Kräfte. Architekturschaffende müssen aufmerksam und neugierig, innovativ, erfinderisch, aber auch kritisch sein. Daher ermutigt das IKA seine Studierenden, forschend mit Ideen zu experimentieren und deren Gültigkeit und Brauchbarkeit praktisch zu erproben. Wer sich für Architektur als Tätigkeitsfeld interessiert, in dem man seine intellektuellen Fähigkeiten einsetzt und sich unablässig für eine bessere Welt ausspricht; wer darauf besteht, zu hinterfragen, wie wir in unserer Umwelt leben, und Dialogen und Auseinandersetzungen gegenüber aufgeschlossen ist, wird mit dem IKA der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien die richtige Wahl treffen. Das IKA sucht die besten Studierenden, die daran Interesse haben, in die Zukunft der Architektur zu investieren.
Die Architekturausbildung am Institut für Kunst und Architektur basiert auf fünf Plattformen. Sie bilden die Grundlage für eine Architekturausbildung, in der sich Studierende und Lehrende gleichermaßen auf ein konkretes Forschungsfeld fokussieren können und dennoch eine Verknüpfung zu den anderen Schwerpunkten herstellen, die für das Verständnis der Komplexität der Disziplin der Architektur unerlässlich sind:

The Institute for Art and Architecture (IKA) believes that architecture is an intellectual construction of ideas tied to its socio-economic and political context. Architectural production needs to be alert and inquisitive, at the same time innovative, inventive and critical. Consequently, we educate/encourage our students to experiment with ideas through research, test their credibility and viability through making and project their implementation in practice. If you are interested in architecture as a domain in which you exercise your intellectual capacity, where you tirelessly pursue arguing for a better world, where you insist on making a difference in how we inhabit the environment, and if you are interested in dialogue and debate, the IKA at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is the right choice. We are looking for the best students who are interested in investing in the future of architecture.
Architectural education at the Institute for Art and Architecture is based on five research platforms. They provide the foundation for a new type of architectural education, in which students and teachers alike can focus on a particular interest and yet connect to all of the other topics that are essential to understand the complexity of the discipline of architecture:
