I LOCAL EFFECTS OF GLOBALISATION

Von

The situation in cities, above all those in the developing and emerging nations, is characterised by the intertwining of economies on a global scale, by the export of capital to low-wage nations, by the exploitation of raw materials, extractive agriculture and land grabbing on the one hand and the export of goods, monopolies and the linking of export policies and development aid on the other. Job distribution, working conditions, immigration or shrinkage, pollution and environmental destruction are local effects of global economic activity that cannot be managed solely on a local level.
