While Konrad Adenauer, the first West German chancellor, lived in his private residence in Rhöndorf during his time in office, his successor Ludwig Erhard wanted a new chancellor’s residence built in Bonn when he was inaugurated in 1963. The Franconian politician Erhard, who already owned a house built by Sep Ruf on the Tegernsee lake, commissioned the Munich­based architect to construct the new building on the grounds of the Palais Schaumburg. …
