Technical University of Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU) History and Theory of Architecture: Research Associate

The Department of Architecture at the RPTU is offering two positions for a Research Associate at the Chair of History and Theory of Architecture, Prof. Dr. Adria Daraban. Application Deadline: July 31, 2023

We see the chairs’ activity at the interface of theory and practice, of the history and the present of architecture. As instruments of reflection, the disciplines of history and theory of architecture investigate cultural, socio-political as well as social backgrounds, mechanisms, and structures that influence the production and reception of architecture. In this context, architectural theory, as a critical cultural theory, is seen as having the responsibility to unfold its potential discursively and operatively. The focus of the work is the theoretical, historical and the curatorial examination of interactions between architectural culture, environment and society.

Activities include teaching and research in the history and theory of architecture, the conception and supervision of seminars in the BA and MA as well as the acquisition, preparation and implementation of research and exhibition projects.

The positions are being offered for an initial period of two years, with an option to extend. The possibility of a doctorate is given. The grading is based on the TV-L. The position is rated E 13.

Employment Requirements:
- University degree in Architecture, Architectural History, or related subjects (Art History, Cultural Studies, History of Science, with a focus on architecture).
- Experience in the field of university teaching and research
- Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills, rigor, curiosity and ambition
