The year 2019 marks the centenary of the founding of the Bauhaus. To mark this occasion, the "Bauhaus Project" was initiated by a transdisciplinary, international group of experts with the aim of taking a critical inventory of Bauhaus ideas in a five-year work process and making the utopian surplus of the Bauhaus fruitful for the present. We invite everyone to join us in the experimental search for a renewal of art, design and architecture in relation to contemporary society. At the heart of this is the Bauhaus idea of overcoming the boundaries of disciplines and the fragmentation of modernity and using design to transform society and everyday life.

The historic Bauhaus, founded in 1919, was more of a project than an institution during the 14 years of its existence: closed three times and reopened at different locations, with changing sponsorship and structure, changing teachers and directors, it was always in a state of flux.

The year 2019 marks the centenary of the founding of the Bauhaus. In the five years leading up to the anniversary, from 2015 to 2019, we will pose a question for discussion each year and invite people to join us in our search for contemporary answers as well as historical reflection and critique. Each year in January we publish a new question, and then at the end of the year we publish the results of our joint work in a themed issue of the journal ARCH+.
