ARCH+ has been shaping the critical discourse on architecture since 1968. To achieve its goal of educating the public about the social relevance of architecture and the city, ARCH+ not only publishes a magazine but also curates an extensive public discourse program aimed at a broad audience. Thematic issues, features, conferences, and exhibitions illuminate the production of space as both a cultural and political practice.
Critical discourse must be independent: free of content-related guidelines, without interest in economic gain. ARCH+ has therefore been an independent body since its inception. This independence ensures editorial integrity and the pursuit of scholarly quality, which ARCH+ guarantees through a wide range of collaborations with both established and emerging experts.
To safeguard its critical ambitions over the longterm, ARCH+ bundles the activities that go beyond its journal under the umbrella of its nonprofit limited liability company, ARCH+ gGmbH. The founding of ARCH+ gGmbH and the recognition of its nonprofit status expresses our commitment to act as an independent, nonprofit social enterprise serving the community and educational purposes.
In the face of social upheaval, a critical voice like ARCH+ is more necessary than ever. Maintaining the institution's independence and quality of content is a shared responsibility.
