Lecture and talk with Fuminori Nousaku & Mio Tsuneyama
Special guest: Anne Groß
Friday, March 14, 2025, 7 p.m.
Doors: 6 p.m.
ARCH+ Space, Friedrichstraße 23a, 10969 Berlin
Fuminori Nousaku and Mio Tsuneyama have developed an understanding of ecological urban transformation that is based on processes of decomposition, which can soften and dissolve existing structures, while being as productive as a fungus that sprouts from its mycelium.
Projects such as “Himi Migrant Village,” “Akeno Raised Floor,” or “House for Seven People” demonstrate how architecture and ecology need to be fundamentally reconsidered in the “expired city” – as opposed to the “brand-new city.” In their respective practices, Nousaku and Tsuneyama emphasize the complex network of nodes and connections that ecologically-minded architects need to embed themselves in – networks that span the existing urban fabric, post-fossil energy infrastructures, waste, craft, traditional knowledge, non-human beings, and bio-based materials. As representatives of a young generation of architects in Japan, they have pioneered a new aesthetic that builds on ecology, community, and architecture as an open ended process.
The evening will be accompanied by a video featuring the practice of Mio Tsuneyama & Fuminori Nousaku directed by German-Japanese architecture office Studio GROSS, founded by Anne & Sebastian Groß. The video was produced for the exhibition Make Do With Now at the Swiss Architecture Museum S AM.
Moderation: Markus Krieger (ARCH+) and Verena von Beckerath (Bauhaus-Universität Weimar)
