Porto Fluviale

The military barracks of Porto Fluviale, located in Rome’s Ostiense neighborhood, were abandoned in the 1980s and, after a long period of vacancy, occupied in 2003 by the citizens’ movement Coordinamento Cittadino Lotta per la Casa, which fights for the right to housing. Over the years, fifty-six families from thirteen different countries of origin appropriated the structure according to their (housing) needs, furnished it, and carried out repairs themselves.
