Traces

A reconstruction based on the principle of tabula rasa eliminates the traces of what came before. Prior to the Second World War, Berlin’s Hansaviertel was an affluent neighborhood of grand nineteenth-century residential buildings. In 1943, two-thirds of its housing stock was destroyed by Allied air raids on Nazi Germany.
