Ruhr Modernism – Between Utopia and Everyday Life

Hardly any other region bears the imprint of postwar modernism as clearly as the Ruhr region. In this urban landscape, the social, architectural, and infrastructural paradigms of the 1950s to 1980s coalesce into new planning ideals, experimental approaches, and new modes of building. This phase of development, now commonly referred to as Ruhr Modernism, marks a fundamental new beginning for the region.
