Das Bauhaus avanciert momentan zu einer beliebten Referenz für ökologische Transformationspolitiken. Mit dem New European Bauhaus hat die Europäische Kommission 2020 das bislang größte Bezugsprojekt lanciert. Es soll Gestalter*innen für die Materialisierung des European Green Deal mobilisieren. Doch statt die politische Dimension der Künste voll anzuerkennen, adressiert die Initiative die Kreativdisziplinen als passive Ausführende ungenügender Klimaziele. Dementgegen lädt die Initiative Klasse Klima am 5. und 6. März 2022 zu einem transdisziplinären, digitalen Symposium zur politischen Gestaltungsfähigkeit der Künste in institutioneller Klimapolitik ein. Unter dem Titel Re: New European Bauhaus – For A Just Design of Climate Politics schaffen die Organisator*innen der Initiative Klasse Klima eine Debatten- und Vernetzungsplattform für internationale Gestalter*innen und Künstler*innen. Im Fokus stehen die Bedingungen, unter denen die Künste zu einer klimagerechten Gestaltung etwa des European Green Deal und New European Bauhaus beitragen können. Impulse geben Redner*innen wie Claudia Mareis (Humboldt-Universität), Hicham Khalidi und Rolando Vásquez (Jan van Eyck Academie), Katja Voigt und Nessim Achouche (Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung), Isabell Schnalle und Lisa Hoffmann (Klasse Klima), sowie Dušan Pajović (DiEM25/Green New Deal for Europe).

The Bauhaus has become a popular historical reference for green transformation projects, best exemplified by the European Commission’s New European Bauhaus (NEB), launched in 2020 to mobilize creative practitioners for the practical implementation of the European Green Deal. What might appear as an active acknowledgement of the political and economical dimensions of Gestaltung, the NEB risks rendering creative practitioners passive executors of insufficient climate targets. To counter this, the autonomous initiative Klasse Klima is hosting a transdisciplinary, digital symposium focused on the political response-ability of the arts in the ecological crisis. Re: New European Bauhaus – For A Just Design of Climate Politics (March 5–6, 2022) will navigate critical perspectives on the European Green Deal and the New European Bauhaus. The virtual program of talks, discussions and workshops aims to explore the institutional, artistic and designerly strategies that characterize the creative fields’ agency for climate justice in institutional politics. Two additional on-site events in Zurich and Berlin will situate the debates locally and offer a chance to connect in person.
