Doctoral Candidate (PhD-Student) at University of Luxembourg

in Architecture, from 1st october 2017 on

The successful applicant will work on the EU funded project Eco-Construction for Sustainable Development (ECON4SD) as part of a group consisting of six doctoral students and one PostDoc that are all involved in this project. The candidate will analyse, design and represent a generic modular, flexible, multi-use, re-usable, prefabricated construction.

Owing to the increasing demand for multi-use, re-usable, and resource efficient constructions, the research of this work-package aims at developing modular, flexible and dismountable structures. Thus, new types of prefabricated hybrid components in concrete-timber will be explored - in collaboration with structural and civic engineers - with the objective of establishing slim and resource efficient structures for flexible buildings.

For this purpose, the candidate will firstly establish an atlas of flexible and systematic structures in architecture as a basis for design principles. In a second phase, the candidate will develop a variety of architectural models also integrating other parameters such as circulations, shafts, and envelop principels. The candidate will then simulate the feasability of different uses of the structural typologies, and finally contribute to the construction of a model in 1:10 or 1:5 or even 1:1.
